Liverpool will challenge for the title

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has stated that his club will be challenging for the title this season.

He said that a club like Liverpool should always be going for the title and that this is what they will be doing this season. He believes that it is not good enough to challenge for a place in the Champions League and that they should give their best to challenge for the Premier League title.

Jurgen Klopp believes that he has a good team and that his players have not been accustomed to his playing style. He believes that if all his players remain fit, he should be able to mount a serious challenge for the title. However, he conceded that things will not be easy as there are so many strong teams in the league and that they have all invested massively in new players.

Jurgen Klopp said that the Anfield side is still active in the transfer market and that they will be signing new players if they find the right talent at the right price. He said that they do not have unlimited resources and that they should make sure that they are investing in quality players. Read more

LIVERPOOL WANT SPORTING LISBON’S MARTINS

Premier League side Liverpool have decided to begin talks with Sporting Lisbon over the possibility of getting winger Gelson Martins this summer.

The club is seeking an alternative after a few setbacks in their transfer market pursuit this term.

The Merseyside club have reportedly agreed personal terms with target Mohammed Salah but AS Roma are yet to agree to the club’s transfer fee range. Roma want £35 million for the player which does not corresponds with Liverpool’s valuation.

The 22-year old Martins is highly rated in Portugal. Liverpool scouted him all season and they deem him fit for the role. He scored six goals in 32 games but he was more crucial for the team. His release clause if a little less than £50 million even though reports say Sporting could listen to offers in the range of £40 million.

With the player in his prime and possibly many more years to come, Liverpool seem to prefer that option to Salah. The former Chelsea man is 24 years and he played under Jose Mourinho. He was sent on a loan deal to Fiorentina where his nine goals in 26 games attracted Roma’s attention. The Egyptian played a year at Roma before he eventually agreed to join them on a permanent basis for £15 million. Read more

Liverpool is being linked with Steve Mandanda

The 32 year old shot-stopper Steve Mandanda has picked up a knee injury which has left him out of the pitch for a significantly long period of time and his future as a player of Crystal Palace appears to be reaching it’s end as the French performer has not played a competitive match for the English Premier League club since November of 2016.

It’s rumored that Liverpool’s JurgenKlopp has not been impressed by his main goal-keepers Simon Mignolet or by Loris Karius and it’s because of this reason that JurgenKlopp is being linked with Steve Mandanda as a possible player that could be signed during the summer transfer window.

Aston Villa is another club that has shown interest in signing Steve Mandanda and could become potential competitors for Liverpool when the summer transfer window re-opens on July 1st. Read more

Klopp disappointed with draw

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said that he is disappointed with the draw against Manchester United as he feels that his players have done enough in order to win the game.

He said that they have given everything they can on the pitch and felt that they deserve more than just a point in the game.

The German manager said that Manchester United had played an intelligent game and soak up all the pressure before launching long balls in the final stage of the game. He admitted that his players were tired by then and that it was difficult for them to defend against a physical side.

However, he believes that his players have done everything they can to win the game and that it was unfortunate that they could not score another goal. Liverpool lacks depth

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said that he lacks depth in his squad at the moment and that it would be tough going in the holiday season fixtures.

He said that he would have liked to rotate his team a bit during the Christmas season but because of injuries he would not be able to do so.

Jurgen Klopp said that he is keen to add new players to the team during the January transfer window but one of his main targets Christian Pulisic is not available for sale. Borussia Dortmund has told their former coach that this player forms part of the future for the team and that they do not have the intention of selling him.

Jurgen Klopp feels that he lacks some depth at the moment and that it will be tough to continue like this. It is believed that he has already informed the Liverpool hierarchy that he would need some additional players during the January transfer window in order to mount a serious push for the title.
The German manager said that it is a tough situation at the moment and that he does not have many options at the moment. He has promoted some of the best U23 players in the team, but he feels that they are not ready enough to play in tough games. He said that he would have to wait for his injured players to get back into the team before getting options.

He said that Liverpool needs to improve their defending collectively and not allow their goalkeepers to be exposed to shots from a distance. He feels that there is a lack of urgency in the team sometimes and this is why the opposition players are allowed so much freedom to shoot and to pick a player with a long pass.

Jurgen Klopp remains confident about Training

Jurgen Klopp remains confident that the week-long training camp in Tenerife will help the players rejuvenate for a great end to the campaign.

Liverpool’s aspirations of at least qualifying for the Europa League to a major blow after the 3-2 defeat against Southampton during the weekend. The defeat leaves Liverpool just three points above Chelsea, who have been in much better form since the turn of the year. Philippe Coutinho opened the scoring for the Reds before Daniel Sturridge made it a two-goal advantage inside 25 minutes. However, Liverpool were unable to sustain this good position throughout the 90 minutes.

Some impressive changes made by opposition manager Ronald Koeman meant that Liverpool found themselves 3-2 down going into the final 10 minutes. Even the introduction of Belgian international Christian Benteke did not help Liverpool get three points from this away trip. The league now goes on a holiday for two weeks due to the international break, with fans having to take advantage of entertainment offers Manchester instead. The club have tried to take advantage of this absence by going on a training camp in Tenerife. Klopp says that he is already seeing positive signs from his players after just a few days. The club return to action with a home game against title chasing Tottenham.

Klopp will want to cause a major upset in the title race by beating Spurs. “It’s going really well. We had 13 players plus two keepers training this morning, including a lot of young players. It was a good session. All the injured players have come away with us too and it’s nice to have them here. This is a really good training ground and the weather is a little bit better than in England! We’re having a good time. This is a good place for us to work this week. We’re working hard in the mornings and then in the afternoons it’s time with the families,” said Klopp.

RODGERS DISAGREES

Brendan Rodgers has expressed his disagreement over Steven Gerrard’s recent statements.

A few days ago, Gerrard had said that the Reds didn’t approach that famous Chelsea game of 2013-14 Premier League with the kind of attitude they needed to.

Liverpool had lost that game to lose the League title as well ultimately.

According to Gerrard, there was a sense of overconfidence in team’s preparation leading to that game and it harmed them eventually.

But, Rodgers, who was in charge of Liverpool at that time, is of the opinion that the attitude was perfectly okay and it couldn’t have been any different.

In the words of Rodgers, “I wouldn’t like to agree to what has been said regarding our approach that day.”

“We had played aggressive Football all season and we went the same way against Chelsea too. There was nothing wrong in that.”

“It was only a misfortune that just before the break, a slip happened and it shifted the momentum in the opposite direction. But, till that instance, they had not been able to put us under pressure.”

“Even when we came after the break, we continued with the same approach for some time and we were being able to do well, but, then, towards the end, we seemed to go into our shell a little bit.”

It was the first time after his sacking that Rodgers was interacting with the press and apart from talking about the remarks of Gerrard, he spoke on some of the transfer decisions as well that he took while he was the Reds boss.

The Irishman also made it clear that he would not mind taking up the managerial job in some other league around the world if the offer comes to him.

Rodgers has so far managed only the English clubs in his short managerial career which had started in 2008.
