Former Liverpool legend John Aldridge has suggested that Liverpool needs a new left-back if they are going to challenge for trophies.

For him, Alberto Moreno is not up to the standard and has to be replaced in the transfer winder. Indeed, many fans were not satisfied with Moreno’s performance in the defeat against Sevilla and had called for the player to be replaced.

John Aldridge said that he does not want to put the blame on any individual for the defeat against Sevilla but believes that Moreno got it wrong on the first goal conceded by Liverpool. He said that it is okay to make a mistake once but in the case of Moreno he keeps making the same mistakes time and again. He is often guilty of ball watching and most of the time he gets his positioning wrong.

For Aldridge, this is inadmissible at this level and given that Moreno has plenty of experience he should not have been making such mistakes. He believes that the player has some abilities but that he is struggling to play with Liverpool current formation. If Liverpool want to win something in the future, Aldridge believes that they will need to get a top left-back.

He said that Liverpool should bring in an experienced left-back and let Moreno learn off him. This will ensure that they do not only have quality in the team but also have a quality back-up.

Jurgen Klopp has yet to make a signing for Liverpool this season and fans wait to see what kind of players he bring in. This will be the first full-season that he will be having, and he will have the time and the resources to build a team according to his own liking. It is only after this season that we can assess whether Liverpool has really progressed under Klopp.
